Sally AGF
For four generations, our family has been working in our still thriving fruit and vegetable company Sally. Four generations of Sally’s Fruit and Vegetables means a look back in time.
Great-grandfather Lieuwe de Jong started ‘sutling’ with fresh fruit through the forests of Oranjewoud in 1915. At the time it was quite normal, basket in front and in the hand and selling the fruit. His son Herman continued the sale and became known as “Sally at the main bridge”.
In winter, Herman de Jong was the owner of the consumer tent of the Koninklijke Thialf IJsbaan, the skating rink that used to be located near the Tjongerschans hospital. And during the football season, he sold chocolate, with the “Kwatta box”, on the stands of the old sc Heerenveen stadium. He was rightfully a well-known Heerenvener and with that the name Sally became a household name in Heerenveen. “Sally” (the founder just thought it was a nice name, which was mentioned in a nice song) is on different markets in the region four days a week.
